My name is Al. I've been a member since 2004. I was gone for some time. I honed and refurbished str8s. I did for a long time. One day I came to a conclusion that erasing all the history that a str8 had on it was erased when I polished them. I stopped . I began giving them a light cleaning and made them usable. I was wondering if any of you old timers remember me ? I'm going to be retiring within the year and pulled out my massive collection and it brought back so many memories. I was thinking of getting back into it . It was like finding a lost love. Thanks for your time . Sincerely Blackstangal

I'm not looking at you !
Welcome back. I really love to see the amazing work some folks do on the old blades that make them sparkle. I'm on the side that thinks a clean, sharp, and historically correct blade is more in the realm I want to be. None of my old blades (125-200 years old) are perfect. But they are all polished, no rust, and ready to shave in the morning. The elephant ivory, horn, bone, scales will all show their age. Is that a bad thing? I think not. I do like to find the elephant ivory without cracks near the pins. Horn and bone may have bug bites here and there and elephant ivory will yellow. I'm good with that as long as the blade is a 'shaver'.

Thanks for your reply . It's great to be welcomed back . I spent hrs working on razors and enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for the warm welcome back . I still have all my equipment for the rewarding hobby. Looking forward to participating. Sincerely Blackstangal . Keep on Str8ing.
