I don't know about the grit of the stone but I'm pretty sure S.R. Droescher stopped making razors around 1924. I just got one I'm hoping to restore.

that would be pretty cool to have a razor and a hone from the same company

Woo hoo!
Well it's a fairly fine looking barber hone, so I'm going to hazard a guess that it's in the 6000-8000 grit range? It doesn't look too fine in the close-up, but I suspect that that might have something to do with only being finished on 400 grit as opposed to a higher grit.
If you have anything higher than 400 wet/dry I would try and out and see if it smooths out the surface a little more. I finished my Swaty on 1500 grit (after going through coarser grits at first) and it came out much smoother then when it was finished on something around 400.
Except for the chip at the top (which really won't affect it's use at all) it looks to be in excellent condition, so yeah, $5 sounds like a great price to me!

Still Stone Crazy After All :-(
You might shoot Sticky a PM with a link to this thread. He collects barber hones and he may have used one like it and have an idea of where it would fit in grit wise. Nice barber hone you have there. Doroscher was a quality distributor of barber supplies and didn't have any junk. I have one of their razors and it is darn good.

If you want to flip it I may be interested. By the way, you're at Scott AFB? I'm originally from Madison County IL just came pass there on I-64 last week.

I've got one of those. It's one of the many Swaty clones and if I recall correctly, I think mine performed pretty much identically to Swatys.
