    Default new hones

Here are some pics some of the hones that I have made. I have been bouncing ideas back and forth with Randy on different things to try. I have finally made a hone that I am happy with. It is 1.5 X 8. It has .5 chrome oxide for the abrasive and it is bound by shellac. I used the hone after the 8K Norton - I'm tickled with the results, a very nice shave. I know one data point is not much of a trend and I do not know how it will work over time i.e., glazing lapping. Randy and I have been messing with this for awhile and it is good to have some positive results.

The second hone is a trial barber hone. It has .5 chrome ox and 1.8 boron on either side. The barber hone process still has some bugs to be worked out, but I figured I would show it anyway. The barber hone works well, but is cosmetically and dimensionally flawed. I need to make it thicker and get rid of the pores.

I honestly don't know what I can add to that...Great job! I know you still have to perfect it, but it looks like some great progress has been made. Very impressive.

Charlie, that is really cool! I am glad you posted this.
I am pleased to see that there are no pin holes in the latest big hone. You are now the proud maker of the very first 0.5 micron chrome oxide razor hone!

    That is just so cool!

Very cool, Charlie. It can't get much better than making your own hone. Can you put me on some sort of product testing list for The Green Hone? I'll buy one from you and give it a go round.

Do you mind posting some details for us who might wish to give it a try?

Well they're both really cool but the barber hone is bad to the bone. You are a talented guy.

All I can say is ME TOO!

I've wondered about how to make my own barber hone but I sure as hell never got as far as you did. Meaning, you DID something! That is a great effort and I would love to buy/try one!

No offense to Glen and a few others, but I consider you to be the innovator of the year given your barber hone and your grinder designs!
