    Default carborundum question

    on carborundum hones the smaller the number the finer the grit is this right.if so what is the finest grit on thes hones. thanks

    No, that is not right. There is no correlation between the number of the hone and the fineness of the grit. However, several of the finest grits are the ones in the low 100's: 101, 101a, 102, 103, 104, and 105 are pretty much all the same grit and binder composition. They just vary by size.

    101 razor hone 6x2x5/8

    101a razor hone 5x2x1/2

    102 razor hone 4x1 1/2x1/2

    103 razor hone 4x2x1/2

    104 Razor hone 3x2x5/8

    105 Razor hone 8.25 x 2.75 x 0.75

    I thought the 118 was a much courser stone compared to 102

    Yes, the 118s is more coarse than the 102.
