Default Barber hone to the resque

I noticed my straight razor had a small micro chip in the blade so I got out the norton 4k- 8k and started working on it. Before long the chip was gone so on to the 8k. Edge looking good, went to chinese 12k .5 diamond on balsa then .3 cro x on balsa.
Must be an off day it was not where I wanted it to be.
Said to heck with it. Drug out my Dovo 4 sided strop with stone, made some lather. Put it on the stone and did 4 passes with the razor, wiped the stone off let it dry and did 3 more passes.
Reached over and pulled some hair out of the cat and did the hanging hair test with 6 fine hairs and smilled. The razor had cut all six hairs at the touch of the blade.
That gave me a new respect for that razor hone. Went on to linen then leather and shaved. it produced a very nice smooth shave and was no where near as much trouble to use as my other hones.
