Default Ogallala Bay Rum Aftershave and skin toner...

Just got a sample bottle from the South East get together (thanks Doc!) and I have to say it may convert me from a dedicated Balm user to a splash guy! The Ogallala starts off with top notes of clove and butter scotch, and degrades into a vanilla base. Wonderfully warm and it leaves my skin feeling taught and conditioned without being too dry. I highly recommend this one to anyone who likes the smell of cloves as that note seems to push through to the end with some strength. Two of these:

Ah crud, will a mod please move this to the appropriate section?

I have a bottle of this stuff which I've been slowly going through for the past year or so. I'm not sure I would call it bay rum but it is very different and very nice. Its mostly witchazel and is very easy on the face after a shave. The scent is subtle but remains for a long time. I'm not sure how I would characterize the scent, to me its kind of like an old barbershop scent. I would recommend it.

I think they've changed the formula on the bay rum, maybe around february or so. I prefer the old version, which is very clovey. The newer version is much "spicier" - I like it ok but my wife hates it, whereas she likes the old one. So if you've been nursing one for a year it's probably the old one.

Their shaving soap has also been reformulated and is very nice too by the way. And their customer service is very generaous and friendly.

I call it the old west style of Bay Rum myself and I do believe John the guy that makes it does too,,, + 1 on the witch hazel feel on the face...
See I brought home the Ogallala Bay Rum / Sandalwood from the "NC Meet" which I wasn't sure of until this morning, I like it and the wife loves it so I guess now I have 2 scents from Ogallala....

I also have to + 1 on the new formula shave soap it is way nicer than his first one...

I have to recommend this stuff too. It's very nice smelling and it is great on my skin. I'm with thebigspendur in that it's not really a bay rum in the traditional sense since it's got very little alcohol in it - so little in fact that the bay oils will not become soluable in it. But neverthe less the end result is the same - good for the skin and good smelling to boot. It's great for the office too as it's subtle.

    Regards,
    EL

    Thumbs up

<P>I'm with you too Doc! The aftershave is a wonderful scent. If anyone hasn't tried Ogallala's other stuff like shave soap, bath soap, or Air Freshner you should! I found them about 3 months ago and I thought I was stumbling onto something new! Oh well! Also, John at OBR always sends a little extra in your box when you purchase from him. <IMG class=inlineimg alt=0 src="http://www.straightrazorplace.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif" border=0 smilieid="26"><IMG class=inlineimg alt=0 src="http://www.straightrazorplace.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif" border=0 smilieid="26"><IMG class=inlineimg alt=0 src="http://www.straightrazorplace.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif" border=0 smilieid="26"></P>

I just got a sample yesterday and I have the Double strength cologne on today...still not sure about the scent...I dont know if I like how it dries down to a vanilla scent. I like spicier bay rums. But will give it a while to see if i change my mind. It certainly is a nice change of pace from Dominica.
