Default Burts Bee's Men's Shaving Set

    Hey guys,

I was strolling through my local Co-op Food Market and found a great deal on a Burt's Bees Men's shaving set. The set was $12 and included the following:

1- Nice porcelain Burt's Bees Apothecary shave mug (white)
1- Boar hair shave brush with heavy porcelain handle (white)
1- Cake of Burt's Bees Bay Rum shaving soap
1- Aluminum Spray bottle of Burt's Bees Bay Rum aftershave balm (more like a lotion and not a thin cologne type aftershave)
1- tube of Burt's Bees Lip balm
All Contents was nicely packaged in a Burt's Bees drawstring plastic pouch with decorative raffia on the bottom.

Okay, so not a bad deal. I was familiar with Burt's Bees products long before I had ever seen this kit. However, I was never aware that they sold mens shaving products and was excited to try it out. I was very surpised at the price, as the apothocary shave mugs alone can go for $30+. I was not impressed with the boar hair brush. Though the handle was very nice, it really does not lather soaps well. Also, the brush loses many hairs after each use and I eventaully need to switch mid-shave to my badger brush.

I was not impressed with the soap either. Though it smells wonderful, I just couldn't get it to lather well. It produced a thin lather that dissapeared quickly when applied to the face. The lather was a bit better when I used my badger brush, but still with the same dissapointing lather results.

I like Burt's Bees lip balm though I don't use it that often. This was quickly added to the wife's collection of lip balms.

Now for the positive note. The Burt's Bees Bay rum aftershave was very impressive. With four squirts of the attractive aluminum bottle, I found that it added the right amount of moisture to my face. It is not gooey and thick. Though it does contain alcohol, which is not desirable to some shavers, the brief stinging post shave was overshadowed by an exotic and attractive smell. Aside from the fact that this product is not tested on animals, it also guarantees to be 99.71% natural. Not too shabby.

At this price, I would recommend this kit to anyone, granted you can find it in your area. If any of you can make it to the Wilmington, NC area, check out the Tidal Creek Cooperative Food Market. Thanks,

    Kyle

I picked one of these sets up for my foster son. It's to accompany the DE I got him for his birthday in August. I'm glad to hear the bay rum is pretty good. I basically picked it up because I'm not sure how he's going to take to DE's and the proper shaving process, so I didn't want to sink a lot of money into the initial purchase. I got his for about $12 also which is a steal since it retails for $30.
