Nivea for Men - Extreme Comfort AS Balm

Nivea have always impressed me with their AS balms and I currently have their Sensitive, Replenishing and Cool Kick AS balms as part of my post shave rotation. When I noticed this eXtreme comfort balm on the shelf I was only too happy to give it a whirl seeing as they have so impressed me with their other AS products. I was surprised to see that this particular AS balm was priced at £6 a bottle though as I can usually pick up the other Nivea AS balms at around £4 a bottle.
The full blurb on the front of the box reads:
Nivea For Men eXtreme comfort Anti Irritation System. Natural Microtec.
Apparently the microtec label means that Chamomile and Licorice root extracts are micro encapsulated for better skin penetration.
The first thing I noticed on opening the box is that it does not come in a glass bottle with a screw top like Nivea's other AS balms. I quite like the white square sided bottles so this was a little disappointing, but the plastic squeezy bottle is a similar shape and the snap fastening is handy enough. The actual balm is a pale green colour with a light " leafy " scent that I found quite pleasing and refreshing. Although intially quite greasy on your your skin, the balm does appear to absorb very quickly indeed and you can certainly feel a soothing effect almost instantly. The balm does contain alcohol, so there is a noticeable burn, but it's fairly mild and doesn't leave your face feeling hot which I have experienced with other alcohol based AS products.
For someone new to shaving with a straight razor I would still suggest they try Nivea's Sensitive As Balm, as it's alcohol free and extremely soothing for skin getting used to a new type of shaving. For the more experienced shaver this product is a viable alternative if you want to try something new in your post shave routine, although I would give it higher marks if the price drops in line with the other Nivea products.
I'll now list the chemical make up of this balm for those who like to know such things.
Aqua, Cyclomethicone, Glycerine, Dimethicone, Methylpropanediol, Butylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-3, Methylglucose Distearate, Panthenol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycyrrhiza Inflata, Bisabolol, Chamomilia Recutita Flower Extract, Tocopherol, Cyclodextrine, Glycine Soja, PEG-40 Stearate, Dimethiconol, Sodium Carbomer, BHT, Sodium Sulfate, Phenoxyethanol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Linalool, Limonene, Parfum, CI 42090.

Hell Razor
Good review. I too use the Nivea products in my rotation. I use the Extra Soothing Balm and Extreme Comfort. They're welcome additions to the high priced speciality store balms like T&H which I love too.

I too use Nivea AS products. I'm presently using the "Extreme Comfort" As balm and am very happy with it. I've used their "Replenishing" and "Sensitive" balm. Both have a higher alcohol content and a bit more bite after a good straight razor shave. BUT, I have to agree. The Extreme comfort is excellent. It is absorbed into the skin quickly, it truly reduces potential razor burn bumps and it appears to be excellent "food" for the skin.
Oddly enough and as an aside, I was introduced to the Nivea brand due to the fact Nivea is a German brand and I grew up in a German household. We had plenty of German family friends. When I was young, I remember my mother and grandmother talking with their friends and acquaintances about their skin care products which was nothing more than the original Nivea skin cream in the little tin. All of my female German relatives and friends have aged wonderfully and appear quite younger than they are (Skin-wise). It is probably my imagination or some variation on the "placebo effect" but I was sold on Nivea from my early teens on. I refuse to switch. Now that theyt have the "Extreme Comfort", I'm even more happy. As far as I can tell (and I'm no Dermatologist) it's fantastic stuff and SO reasonably priced compared to some of the male skin care products out there. Great product!
Wonderful review. I couldn't agree more!

I use their Sensitive balm, and I like it, it absorbs quick, doesn't feel greasy, and it barely has a scent, which is good because it won't interfere with my cologne.

Nivea For Men Sensitive
I have been using nivea for men since i started shaving, at the time using cartridge razors, mine came in a small glass white bottle which i find although not the most elegant design it is Very practical and easy to keep clean, at £5 its cheap but lives up to the reputation of nivea products, it has near no burn, and moisturises Amazingly, it also find the protection it offers, to last a whole day and in the current weather i notice the difference between when i go out in the wind with it on and when i dont have it on. It has a nice plainish fragrance but it isnt that strong, which means that it doesnt interfere with any cologne.
All in all I find it to be a brilliant product which although from the outside may seem basic it does the job well and keeps the face protected and moisturised.

a good after shave balm
I like this later on, like right before bed and in the am (I always shave at night after a shower). Moisturizing is very good.
