Default Domenico Caraceni "1913" After Shave Balm

When I first reviewed http://www.straightrazorplace.com/fo...ing-cream.html, I was met with scepticism. Since then, some of our more experienced members (including Lynn) have tried it and agree that the cream is among the best. Sample provided by The Different Scent in Berlin.

Packaging: The design is not quite as stylish as that of the shaving cream or the Eau de Toilette. Still a very nice bottle that fits well into my hand.

Price: €45 (about USD 60) for 100ml. Clearly more expensive than, for example, Castle Forbes. But, in my opinion, worth the price based on the superb essential oils used in this balm.

Burn/Bite: The balm is alcohol free. There is no burn at all.

Moisturising: The balm soothes the skin extremely well. It also leaves the skin in a well toned condition, soft and supple. If possible, the results are better than those I get from Castle Forbes.

Scent: My old caveat still stands: 1913 sports top notes of neroli and styrax; middle notes of geranium and rose; base notes of tobacco, incense and cypress. This results in a masculine, timeless scent that many may dislike. If you like rose and incense, this may be the perfect ASB for you. Along with the cream and Eau de Toilette, Caraceni's 1913 line makes for a perfect smell. Another caveat: The sent lingers for quite some time. This is perfect if you use the balm alongside the Eau de Toilette, but less than perfect if you do not. It would clash severely with my favourite Eaux de Parfum.

Overall: There are good after shave balms. They work. There are exceptional after shave balms. They work exceptionally well. And then there is Domenico Caraceni "1913". Not only does it work exceptionally well, it also delivers that extra bit of luxury that money (of which you will need to spend more than average for this balm) cannot buy. I absolutely love it. But do make sure to obtain a sample before you invest in this balm, as it will not work well with any non rose/incense/wood scented shaving creams, and will linger.

+1 on all of the above! Absolutely awesome after shave balm that lingers all day long.

Bought mine in a "Mazzolari" shop in Milan for 48 Euro.

This is one of my 2 most favourite aftershave balms. The other one is Penhaligons Blenheim Bouquet.
