Yeah I saw that. Second time around if I'm not mistaken. Notice that the $299.00 opening bid is 'reserve not met'. Now Nancy Hanks was Abraham Lincoln's step mother. Koken was a very big barber supply and made top of the line stuff such as barber chairs, and other supplies. I have a vintage Koken strop that I treasure.

I doubt that the razor belonged to Nancy. OTOH, why would they have stamped her name into the tang ? Commemorative ? Who knows ? I am not sure how far back Koken goes but I don't think that style razor would have existed in Nancy Hanks lifetime.

    Jimmy,
I do not know anything about the history of the brand, but a claim such as this, with no proof is just comical to me.

Man, if that thing were also missing a letter, it'd be worth a fortune!

Nancy Hanks died in 1818. Ernest Koken, 19 yr old german immigrant, began his company in 1874. Koken are still going today, but are owned by a japanese company.

There was a racehorse named Nancy Hanks after Abe's mother, then a steam train was named after the horse in 1892-93. In 1947 there was a train named the Nancy Hanks II. The blade of that razor has Nancy Hanks 2 on it - coincidence?

    Regards,
    Neil

PS: Linc-o-lin was a brand of shampoo - perhaps Abraham Lincolin was a hairdresser!

What amazes me is the starting bid is $299.... and there is a reserve set! What on earth did he think he was going to get for this?

I have a Nancy Hanks and it for sure isn't old enough to go back to Lincoln's time. much less his mothers. If I remember I'll post a pic tonight or tomorrow. It had to be a distributor or something of the sort.
