Thread: handle material

Check this out. it is advertised as celluloid but kind of looks like bone to me. what do you think?

Definitely bone. The thing to remember is that most people who list razors are not really knowledgeable and can make some very wrong and and far out details in their descriptions. Even if you tell them they are mistaken, many will ignore you and leave the description as they originally wrote it.

thanks a lot Walt. hey, im kind of proud of myself for picking that out. im just now learning about different materials. do you know what laws if any petain to ebay regarding the sale of bone, horn, tourtoise shell, and ivory?

I am a hobby woodworker and sometimes I use bone, horn, and ivory for inlays and pens. in my experience, I never had any problems purchasing the material because I purchase small quantities. So if you win the bid on the razor and the scales are one of those materials you listed, you'll be fine. Before I forget, I have gotten those materials off Ebay.

When it comes to some materials like Elephant Ivory and Tortoise there are major restrictions on Eboy but unless someone complains or aren't careful when they title their auction they don't always catch them. Either way it's a seller issue not a buyer one.

I didn't think small amounts would be that much of a problem. But with an elephant or walrus tusk, then there are problems.

Nope. Federal law allows CONUS sales of preban ivory. Only inCONUS to inCONUS sales are allowed. No exports, no imports. What's here stays here and there ain't no more.
