Thread: Coticule or Noticule?

OK impulsively in the last few minutes I looked at an eblag auction and saw this <click pic for more>

I picked it up for £26 and am hoping that its a coti that has come adrift from the schist, what do you think? If I'm right any advice on backing it would be great.
Anyhow at that price, coticule or not, if its any kind of finisher then I'll be happy.

Any slate or what have you will work as a backing. It does look coticule like and if it is I would look for a blue to back it up. IIRC there was one in the SRP classifieds last time I looked. Not sure of the size. Good luck with it, hope it is a good one.

That's from ebay seller Taylors1000 and they are great, that sure is a coti. Congrats!

Some folks set them into Plaster of Paris and trimmed the stuff away from the edges of the stone to give a solid base to a rough backed stone.

It seems that there were a number of different backings used on a Coticule. BBW, slate, cement. Those are the ones that I know of, there were probably many others.

Well I was considering cutting down my dragons tongue but I've been offered a slate tile. I'll need to buy an adhesive so I'll see what's available locally at what price!

If I were you I'd go old school and counter sink it into a piece of hardwood. I have seen coticules housed this way before, and many other finishers, particularly Charnleys and Jnats. You could even make a lid for it with dowel either side to hold them together securely.

Although I'd assume it was a coticule in the absence of other possibilities, it comes from Taylors. Great seller by the way, I have done business with the man several times. He sells coticules at times, so I'd also assume he'd know what one is. Either way please post pics and observations when you receive it.

Epoxy works really well and is cheap. Use the slow curing one. It will never come apart afterwards

The same thought occurred to me, but he describes it as a finisher so I thought I would give it a punt on that basis.
