Default J. R. Torrey civil war era vintage razor, yea right.

There is currently an acution on Ebay that's going to end soon for what the seller calls a Civil War era J.R. Torrey razor. I'm kind of new to this collecting thing but I have done some reading and research. The first thing wrong was the blade style just didn't fit for Civil War era. When I went to the books I found out J.R. Torrey started a strop company in 1858 but didn't start making razors until 1880. Did anyone else see this and take exception to it or is it just me?

Saw it, as well. I chuckled over the mistaken time period.

Can't say much about the razor, though the seller does have a bunch of pics. Don't like the pitting/rust at the edge of the blade.

A lot of straight razor ads say Civil War, probably to attract re-enactors and such.

I always ignore the text in straight razor ads until I have looked carefully at the pictures. Call me arrogant, but I'm willing to bet I know more about straights than the vast majority of ebay sellers.

    What odds are you offering?

Now seriously fellows, I am no student of American history, but are you all sure you have the correct Civil War? Isn't it far more likely you have made a mistake in your historical knowledge than it is for an ebay seller to mislead people in their description? Such things are (almost) unheard of!!
