Thread: Echter????

so I found this ebay auction posted as a "vintage Escher" upon closer examination of the pictures supplied by the seller I discovered that the label actually reads "Echter" is this just another knock off or is it actually a good stone?

It does not dsay Esche roni t, so I'd say it is a thurignian

Echter=genuine, it is not Escher, which is a brand name. The seller is either confused, or just trying to capitalize on a desirable brand name.

Bugger - I'll have to remember to take that $800 snipe off....

Not an Escher, but not a knock-off either. Vintage Thuringians whether labeled as Escher or not are good stones.

I have one that is 6" x 1 1/4" x 5/8". It is not like a y/g, but it's a good vintage thuringian.

Sorta off topic but still on, how do the new thurignian stones hone?

I have one on order but just wanted to double check, i have a small old thurignian thats nice to hone with. Is there much of a difference between the old and the new when honing. The feel when honing, the edge after etc?
