    Default What's with the boxes?

I have noticed more and more lately that sellers on the 'bay' seem to take as many photos of the tatty cardboard box as they do the razor, one auction had three decent pics of the razor and about twelve of the box!

I concede that there are probably avid box collectors out there who after receiving their purchase, throw away the worthless steel thingy that came with the lovely box.

seriously though, whilst it's a plus to have the original box, or any box for that matter I want to see quality photos of the razors, not a moth eaten assembly of cardboard!
    vvti713 and Chefgordon like this.

I believe it comes down to ignorance of what they are selling. They picked up a inexpensive razor at a yard sale or an auction and their only motive is to resell it for a profit. Since the most obvious information is the large print on the box, they tend to focus on that as their primary source of photographic information. Many times I have emailed the seller asking for more detailed photos of the razor if I was interested in it. Most sellers are happy to oblige and either email me directly with photos or add them to the existing photos in their listing.

    Regards - Walt

I've been dabbing in collecting the straight razor's bug brother, knives. Knife collectors put a lot of value in purchasing the knife with the original box. There are people that collect other items that also put a high value on the original packaging. My guess is that the sellers of items w/ lots of pictures of the boxes are also involved in collecting or selling collectible knives.

I have a beautiful set of scales and the nice box they came in, all held apart by a busted metal thingy ... maybe I should think about selling them .. or maybe not.

When I first read that I thought you were after a box of Cornettos. My bad.
