Thread: Hit the jackpot or blow $7???

I snagged this ebay offering the other day. It has yet to arrive, but when it does I will post better pictures. I'm new to straights, and have yet to spruce up a blade so I figured for the low price of $7.27 I take a shot. Either it will be in decent enough shape to make a serviceable razor, or it will be a worthless piece of crap that I can use to practice restoring without worrying about ruining it.

It's a good brand but it's hard to say from that single picture if there is rust on the edge or not.
There seem to be quit an excessive hone wear on it though and a frown but I don't know if it's worth restoring or not.

Its hard to tell until it arrives. I'm fairly new to this as well, I tend to buy quite a lot of very cheap stuff from EBay, and have had some really nice razors from there, and also had some that are junk. I went with the same logic as you, and thought at least I can practice on any bad ones. I'm glad I did as I've learnt a lot about what not to do.

I'd say from the look of the picture it looks like it will clean up pretty easy, there does not look like too much bad stuff on the face you can see. I'm sure the more experienced guys here may have more to say about this buy, but from another noob, I think you got a decent razor for the price.

You get it, you sand it, you polish it....

if it takes an edge, great. if not, you paid seven bucks for a practice razor.....which is still a great bargain for something to practice on.

So either way, I'd say you came out ahead.

The worst part of the blade is the rust, there will probably be some pits involved once the rust is removed. The edge looks good on the one side I could see, hopefully the same is true for the other. So far it looks like 7 bucks well spent. In a couple hours time this would be a GREAT shaver.

The razor should be here tomorrow, I'll post better pictures then.

At the very least you'll have a good practice session at hand sanding. Have fun!

That money could have gotten you a Double Whopper with Cheese, a large order of fries, and a Coke so big you'd never
finish it. All in all, I think you got the better of the two possibilities. Plus you can't restore, hone or shave with a Double
Whopper, although you could have used the fries for a pre-shave oil.
