Thread: Barber hone ? what is this?

Not sure what kind of hone this is but it sold for a quite a bit for something i was thinking of being a combo barber hone?
what is it?

I had looked at it myself & quit looking at it when it went over $40, but if you really look at the photo's it looks like one of those that are two sided due to "dipping" one side in a finer "grit"/paste. The only way I would give that much dough is for a finishing stone...most barber stones are around the 6-8K range. There are a few out there that are fine enough to call finishers...but that one is unknown to me & looked like a normal every day barber stone. Please keep in mind that I am no barber stone expert by no means & a tightwad.

I have also had a bad transaction with this seller. I was supposed to be buying thuringian & ended up with a norton oilstone...quite the difference huh? That's not a seller bash, just a fact.

Well i hope you return the oil stone? there was 7 bidders interested in this hone so i would think its something really good,
and not really a collectable since there is no original packaging.

Is it a frictionite 00 ? I think it might be ..... they bring a high dollar. The ones that will blow your mind are those norton two sided hones the Aussie ax guys covet. I've seen those bring over $500 on the bay.

I think your right but buying an unmarked hone like this would be like buying an escher without the label........

Thats true but for that money you can get a much better finisher then that, but i never used a frictionite i do have a few barber hones and they work quite well but nowhere near that much for sure.
