Thread: Found a treasure and looking for details........

My husband works at the high school in town and has been there for over 20 years. He is always finding things, lost jewelry, trinkets, or items thrown away by teachers that are in really good shape. Well, today was his last day before the holiday vacation and they are remodeling the school and when they were removing ceiling tiles, a small black box with Dixie Manufacturing Co fell down from the ceiling. He thought it was a stick of wood until he looked at it closer. It has an antique straight-edged razor in it. It has a lot number on it, as well as a preprinted sale price of 1.95 and original price of 3.50. Is there anyone that can give an accurate date of it by the lot number?? It is #665357
I googled the name brand and there was a website that showed a picture of the same razor that auctions for $5 - $2500 and just wondered what it might be worth.

Dixie was made in Georgia, Your razor is probably from the 30's. I understand they make good shavers. I don't think they are particularly valuable, but some fancy or colorful ones are cool to have. I once had a pink one. I sold it to a friend in GA!

I asked him that as soon as he told me it was in there. He said he had no idea. Strange, huh?

Thanks, but I wasn't necessarily looking for a value per say, but more as to the history of it. I can call an auction house to get them to look at it, but I am just curious about the whole thing, in general.

High school, but that doesn't make it any better, huh? The blade has a small chip taken out of it, so it's not so "straight" anymore.....LOL

I'd have to say it's "worth using" but depending on the size of the chip in the blade it could possibly be unusable.
