Thread: Advice needed please.

Well its Christmas time and i have a little problem, my sister in law and her mother decided to get me a cut throat for a gift. Awesome idea and i love them for it ,but they payed way to much for a razor with great scales but one that has a BIG piece of the blade missing from the heel .I have read the discription from the seller and it says the blade is in fine condidtion and says nothing about even a crack or a missing piece of razor.The pics do show it but if you dont know anything about razors it sort of looks like its meant to be there[its not i have surched and found a pic of the same razor with the full blade ] So i would love some advice on what i can do and how to go about it with out upsetting everyone ,do i talk to the vendor on my sister inlaws behalf and hope he understands or is it just a case of buyer beware.thanks in advance for any help. P.S the razor was on E-Bay.

Here's how I would handle the situation,

1) I would contact the vendor to see if there is something you can do, or that can be done. I large crack or chip SHOULD have been in the description.

2) If he takes the razor back, great. Then you or your sister in law should look in the classifieds here for one that is shave ready.

3) If he does not take the razor back, then you can contact one of the people in the members services section of the classifieds, and they may be able to reprofile the cutting edge to make it useable. Then, while you wait for the razor to be finished, you should look at the classifieds here....

If you also post a few pics, maybe we can take a gander at that chip, and provide more accurate advice.

Thanks i will contact the vendor and see what happens first ,the thing about it being a surprize was they couldnt ask me for advice on what to buy or where to buy from.The thing about posting pics is if i do that anyone can trace back through the e-bay auctions and see who the vendor is and i dont want to give him a bad name .I will give him a chance to fix the problem first then if its bad luck i will take some pics myself and post them .Thanks for your help Nate hopefully it will be all sorted in the next few days.

Well, if it's a big piece clearly visible on the photographs, you can't really fault the seller for not being knowledgable of what they're selling. It's also buyer's responsibility to know what they are buying.
The only time I'd consider seller being at fault is if the item received is different from the item listed i.e. when I see it in person there are serious problems not disclosed by the description and photos.
So, yeah, contact the seller and see if he'll agree on something, but either way you should probably explain the situation to your relatives. While they had great intentions, they were way outside of their area of competence, and you don't want them to make the same mistake in the future. Obviously you know them best, so you'll know how to do it without upsetting them.

If seller says it's in fine condition but has a chunk missing, that may well fall under the "item not as described" category & you could open a dispute but of course contact the seller first. If there were other bidders he can pass it on to the next highest bidder.

+4 to the Contact seller first. I have never had a seller that would not make things right once they were made aware of a problem. Not even gugi!


Should worse case come to pass, and you end up keeping it. I would be happy to take the challenge of re-profiling. I am no Glenn or Max, but i'm not bad, and I enjoy challenges!
