    Default Chipped blades

What does everyone do with the vintage straight razors that have chipped blades? Do you keep the scales and discard blades? I hope not.

I would like to acquire a couple of vintage straight razor hollow ground chipped blades in order to determine all that might be involved in converting them to outstanding woodcarving knives. EBay has chipped blades available but they are mixed in with more or less suitable razors. I already have enough of those for now.

I think anything other than a haevy wedge would not be suitable to wood carving JMO

I made one many years ago. I do not remember how long it took to make. It was from a hollow ground. It is the best carving knife I have ever owned. I do not think a wedge would have been as effective.

Yep, they all make good carvers. Hollows you just have to grind more off. Carving blades are usually pretty small... Old razors are carbon steel that takes a great edge .. It is a great way to keep an old broken blades in existence. And a well made carving knife is worth its weight in gold to wood carvers.. I used to carve alot. Not so mich any more.l. In the army it was a good way to pass time.?.. Now the only thing I carve is my face.
