    Default $300 Safety Razor...

I'm a little heartbroken...I saw this guy and immediately the line in Wayne's World popped in my head:
"She will be mine, oh yes, she will be mine"

I bid more than I ever have for a safety razor, but in no way was I prepared to go as high as it went.
Unfortunately I've never seen another like it.

Very nice, but way overpriced IMO. Again, YMMV.

Funny but if it was a straight at that price, I'd say it was high, but not overpriced, depending on what it was.....then again, I still haven't spent that much yet.

I have never used a safety razor, but that one is definitly a beauty.
I would gladly shave with it.

I have to kind of agree...
It blows my mind, to be honest...there are amazing and collectable safety razors out there to be had for under $100 if you look for a bit. I was willing to go $135...but good lord. Never in a million years $300.

On the other hand, I had no problem paying that for a Livi new grind...so I guess, as always, value is in the eye of the beholder.

I thought I'd never buy any razor anywhere near that price, but then my wife casually mentioned that she got a great deal on a Dooney and Burke purse in that range. I realized that maybe I should treat myself occasionally. My Hart Steel arrived shortly thereafter.

Am I just a straight homer if I feel straights should worth more because actual craftsman actually work on them versus something totally machine made?

Maybe if someone hand-forged me a safety razor in the fires of Mordor...maybe then I would pay $300...and call it my precious

To Dfriedl...I had the same experience this weekend. Except I had bought a razor earlier this week and my guilt was immediately washed away by her purchase of a alpaca cloak yesterday. (even felt better that I had already used the razor and she would have to wait till autumn to use the cloak!(:-).

If I'm not mistaken, those Metropolis razors are pretty damn rare, especially in that condition. Add in a rabid collector base and $300 doesn't surprise me at all.

I used to collect DEs, particularly slant A.K.A. twisted head, DEs. I have quite a few Gillettes too and thought I knew something about DEs, but that is a new brand to me. Never saw or heard of it before. A very attractive looking design.

I wouldn't doubt it...but if that's what the going rate is, I'm fine admiring from afar...
