They also come ready-honed and I believe (but you should contact the vendor to make sure) that they also give you your first re-hone for free.

For your proposed budget you'll find something your partner will very much like - personally I like the Thiers Issards (french) razors, but to each their own as they say.

There's always the option of a gift voucher from a vendor (I'm sure, for example, straightrazordesigns would do that but again, ask them) and letting your partner choose for himself what he wants.

If you would like to get him a vintage blade our classifieds are a good place to look. Buying vintage blades is a little more fraught than buying a new one of course.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll work it out. It isn't as complicated as it first appears (or as we sometimes like to make it out to be ). Razors shave faces and as long as you deal with a reputable vendor any differences in blades are simply a personal preference. If your partner only has 1 or two razors, anything you get him will be appreciated and he'll learn to use it. Most likely he hasn't experienced enough razor types to know what he prefers anyway.

So I'm guessing more than a couple razors is normal for an experienced user? I kind of figured that one or MAYBE two would be it. Haha. Maybe not.

That is easily the best news I've had in a while. I was expecting it to be more expensive.. I've seen a few in the $300 range, but I obviously have no idea what the difference would be.

I want to make sure it would be a fairly universal *yay* from all of you if you opened what I end up buying as a gift.

Lol. I don't even have a good response. I'm going to assume that it's like my makeup brushes and art supplies: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY AND I NEED ALL OF THEM.

The Art of Shaving -Black Wood Grenadille - Purchase Top Quality Straight Razors

So what is the difference with this one? Is it so expensive because.... it's fancy wood? Dovo(?)

Any input on The Art of Shaving: Your Online Source for Quality Shaving Products

*Does the logo wear off? Their logo on the blade is not all that appealing to me.

*the art of shaving, that is. A nice brand looks good, but "the art of shaving" seems tacky.
