Default What did I do wrong?

I bought a Dovo Best Quality 5/8 With black scales less than three weeks ago. Every thing was fine until tonight. I finished my shave and deciced to sprinkle a little rubbing alcohol on it to clean it. With in seconds the plastic scales right above the pin that holds the razor to the scales cracked and started falling apart, it cracked and fell apart several more times when I opened and closed the blades. I have read in several places that rubbing alcohol was great at cleanning a razor, I never imiganed that rubbing alcohol would do that to any razor let alone a three week old razor. The razor has never been dropped or anything like that. Would this be covered under warranty? Any thought on this is appericated.

Sounds like the scales are acrylic & were laser cut or heated during manufacture, alcohol will destroy them. Always keep solvents away from scales.

I think Celluloid will respond the same.

Yes celluloid is one of those chemical reactions that isn't so stable as an end product.

Thank you all for the input. It is a mistake I will not make again. Dovo said of corse no way alcohol would do that. I watched it happen same as in the video. They said I could send it to them in Germany and that would look at it. I think I will be better off buying new scales all together. Excellent video by the way. Again thanks for the input.

You should be able to get a replacement set of Dovo factory scales from the seller at little expense.
