Thread: Were can I get a straight razor

Probably the only thing I hate about straight razor shaving is I feel all the products related to it need to be bought over the internet. Now I'm all set for gear and I don't have a fear of ordering online, but I've always been a hands on type of guy.

So I was wondering were is a place you can go and sort of see and hold a good variety of equipment. Basically a Mecca of straight razor shaving.

Locally all I've seen is Art of Shaving, but their selection is small especially for straights. They have more disposable razors on display than straights and the disposables are pedestaled in a glass box in the front while the straights are in a small case in the wall in the back. Also everything is so clean and gives the feeling of being hermetically encased, you don't want to ask to see anything.

So I'm looking for a specific store within a specific city, because this is so niche there's definitely not a chain that holds that may display items throughout the US. I travel a bit and don't mind driving though a city that might have such a store and though I'm set for gear I'd like to see whats out there and maybe experiment alittle.

I am not sure there is a "Mecca" but i will say here in Chicago Merz Apothecary has some straights more DEs and a TON of software. It is an AMAZING place that i have had to temporarily BAN myself from since i can never seem to just "LOOK" i always walk out with at least 3 things! the T&H we have here also as prob 12-15 straights for sale but nothing AMAZING and def NOT cheaper than you can get from say SRD or CS or any of the other vendors here!

Antique Shops have a bunch of straight razors in varying conditions you can find some in great condition or you can find some that fit well in your hand then send them out to get restored from someone here.
