Default Supplies and a barber: Wanted!

As most of you may know, I'm now living in Brussels.
When I moved here, less than a month ago, I decided to pack light and ended up forgeting some important supplies. I am almost without shaving cream at the moment and I cannot find anything other than canned-goo at the supermarket. I'm not looking for anything fancy: just the regular Palmolive stuff or something like that. I also seem to be a little low on my Old Spice After Shave at the moment. Any one knows a good barber supplies shop here in Brussels?
Of course, I could order online or ask somebody back home to send me some supplies. But the result would be not getting to know my surroundings and getting to know the shops and the shop-keepers. And where's the fun in that?

I will also, sooner or later, need a haircut. Does anybody know a classic style barber here in Brussels. I see lots of barbers in some parts of town, but I feel that they are mostly orientated towards catering for the morrocan, argelian and whatnot sort of clientelle. I'm not really in need of that sort of style at this point of my life. Can anyone recomend a good old classic barber in Brussels? I live in Ixelles now. I would rather not have to go to say, Anderlecht to get a haircut...

    Thank you!
    Merci!
    Dank!
    Danke!

I don't know much about Belgian suppliers of shaving goods, but oddses are you could find a Body shop store there. Their maca root shaving cream is not half bad.

Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

My sister-in-law has lived in Overijse, a village just outside of the city centre. Contrary to many other villages that make up greater Brussels it still is a very Flemish village. I am sure you will be able to find a decent hairdresser there.

Thanks for the replies; in fact, there is a Body Shop not very far away from my flat and, indeed, their Maca Root shaving cream is not bad. Tried it once and I reather liked it.
I also found a wilkinson shave soap at the supermaket. Thought it was an odd thing and did not buy it... Does any one know if that is any good or will I have to play the part of the guinea pig?
The barber, yes... thank you, Kees, for the tip. But Overijse seems to be a bit out of my way. I work in Ohain and live in Brussels so I would be looking for a barber closer to my neighbourhood.
    Any other tips?
    Thanks!

Francisco, have you tried to "google" the things you need in the town you are in? I do this all the time here when I am looking for something, I type the item and the general location into the search engine and see what happens.

Well... yes, I did. But I didn't find out much. The thing is, I would prefer some input and some advice from the locals, I mean... I'd like a recomendationm especially concerning the barber shop. There are lots of barbershops in Brussels, don't get me wrong, but they tend to the younger, more hip-hopish generation if you know what I mean. And... I'm not really into that sort of thing. I would like to find a barber that has experience cutting men's hair and for whom a hood is not something you wear but something that covers your gead, when it rains in your MG B...
    Thanks for the tip, though!

Just found this: Barbershop Classics The Shaving Shop
It really smells of SRP somehow... Does this belong to any of the members here? If so... can I get a discount?!

That shop is in the Netherlands. I wouldn't buy there: they once sold me a top of the range Omega brush that shedded like nobody's business. The owner told me that's how it is supposed to be (at least 10 hairs a day!)

BTW: when in Antwerp go to the Koordenwinkel!

I found some shops and I wanted to share them with you. Actually, my girlfriend found some shops and took me there today. Since I work all day during the week, she has time for herself to explore Brussels.

    This is what we found:

    1)
    Coutellerie du Roi
    Passage du Nord 27
    De Brouckère - Brussels
    Coutellerie du Roi

The owner is a straight razor shaver himself and is a member of a french forum. I allerted him to our existence and I hope he joins us very soon. He was very nice and the shop is quite a treat. Not many straight razors, but what he has is good (mostly Dovo and Thiers Issard); he also has some soaps, many brushes and Dovo strops.

    2)
    Des Loges
    Rue des Fripiers 6
Ilôt Sacré (close to the Grand Place)

Nice shop. Bought a Dovo soap in a nice looking travel tin. A bit expensive, though... I'll see if the deal was any good tomorrow. There are other soaps and brushes. The razors are Solingen marked but I didn't recognize any of the brands. To be on the safe side, I wouldn't buy them...

I still haven't found a barber. But I'll continue the search. If any of you remember something, please tell me. My hair keeps on getting longer and the longer it gets, the balder I look...
