This is going to be a double review as both handle and hair were bought seperately.
I was a lucky recipient of a premium horn handle from Kimson and I have one of Tony's 22mm finest badger knots and voila!
A beautiful combination.
The loft I left is about 50mm tall.
During the first use I didn't want to stop lathering! I did a four pass shave for the first time in a long time and oh, what a shave. The hair on this brush is very nice and soft and was very very pleasant to use. It has great flow through, meaning it didn't lock the lather in the brush but eaisly let go of it yet was not too loose or anything.
The tips on this brush ar the softest pillowy soft tips I have ever felt. The whole experience was magnificent!! I mean MAGNIFICENT!!
If you have a chance to pick up one of Tony's Finest badger knots to make a shaving brush you won't be disappointed. As much as it looks like the two band of the Tulip 4 and other so called 'white' badger hair, it is nothing like it in feel. The shaft is much softer and has a lot more flex. The entire length of the exposed hair on this knot was 62mm and like I stated I left 50mm of it exposed. The glued base of the knot is 5mm, that make the knot set 17mm below the top of the handle.
Now, the handle for this brush is very very fugured water buffalo horn. A single peice of turned horn. It was a little pricey for a handle only, but for a one of a kind handle the value is much greater. The inside of the hole was nicely beveled to allow a natural shape of the badger hair.
Overall one of my best brushes. Equal (yet different) to my Tulip 4, and softer than my Kent BK8.
The first pics show it prior to using it after I epoxied the knot into the handle and the others are after it's first use.
