Thumbs up Simpson Chubby 2 - 2 Band

    Specs
    Handle height: 45mm
    Hair loft: 55mm
    Overall brush height: 100mm
    Knot diameter: 28mm

    Price
Simpsons are known to be more expensive compared to other brushes (except Plisson). With Simpson the denser the brush the more expensive. Considering you can get a 2 band for the same price as a super 3 band I find the price you pay for a chubby 2 - 2 band reasonable. You do get a lot of top quality badger hair for the price.

    Quality
Since Vulfix has taken over Simpson the quality has really improved. The brush is extremely well made. The naming on the handle is now carved (etched) into the handle, the Simpson sticker some worship doesn't fall off anymore. The 2 band is just perfect for my personal liking. It is supposed to be a thicker and stiffer hair. I have no complaint whatsoever about the total quality of the brush. It is extremely well made. The handle is lathe turned and the chubby is known to be the finest shaving brush available in the world today.

There are some shedders on the market. No company or brush is foolproof to a bad sample. I agree it's not funny when it does happen with your brush as the last thing you want is to deal with the vendor and losing time waiting for an exchange.. So far I have only heard positive communication and warranty issues with Vulfix/Simspon. Also most reputable vendors will exchange the brush for you.

    Density/Stiffness/Softness
Talk about density and backbone. This brush has it all. It's the perfect combination between softness, backbone and stiffness. The tips are extremely soft, mine shows no scratchy or scratchiness, the hair is extremely resilient and contours your face like a sponge. Pure heaven if you ask me. You can face lather and give yourself a nice scrubbing but without any irritation or scratchy feeling. The 2 band badger hair used is of the highest quality.

This doesn't mean it's the perfect brush for you. Anyone looking for a very dense but soft luxurious badger brush. This is it.

    Ergonomic
The handle is not very tall but I have no issues with the ergonomics. I do have regular normal sized hands and it fits me perfectly. I guess people with very large hands might find it a bit to small.

As a side note the handle color of my chubby 2 is more of a creamy ivory and my Polo 10 plain ivory. The older simpson (somerset) used to be of the creamy ivory color.

    Lather ability
I used it on both soaps and creams and never encounter an issue lathering. It does excel on soaps because of the density and stiffness. Most of the time when I do have a problem lathering it's not the brush but the soap/cream that doesn't agree with my very hard local water.

    Conclusion
I own several brushes. My second Simpson which is a Polo 10 - 2 band shows the exact same positive qualities but being somewhat larger gives for a different ergonomic and feel. None the less the Chubby 2 - 2 band is an excellent brush with top performing qualities which keeps the fame and tradition of Simpson alive.

Thanks so much for this review. I agree Simpsons are a bit pricey, but well worth it.
