Thread: LOVE this new G5 Scuttle!!!

Hey Jeremy,

If you're not gonna use your scuttle, I know somebody in my apartment that could put it to work...

Actually, I read your post when you were choosing too. There are a lot of options out there, and they're all have unique features so it's tough to choose. What I like about the G5 is it looks a little more utilitarian, which is how must stuff tends to be. Then again, the handle on the Shwarz looks pretty comfy.

Yeah, it looks big and way too many moving parts ;-P Something would get dropped on my tile floor.....

That dipping basin is a neat idea but I wouldn't use it..... I get my water boiling hot and then cork it....... Keeps it from spilling when I empty the rest of the water out of the lather bowl. How do you heat yours? Haven't shaved with it yet? what are you waiting for?

The other problem I see it this..... If my water is HOT..... I don't want to dip my brush in that water and damage the bristles.... I just dip in the sink as I am working on buildin lather.... Works for me.

Yours is truly a work of art too and I am sure you will love it.... Just want others in the future to see the differences. I struggled to get a "handle" on the features of each of the 5+ on the market.... I am still happy with my decision and wouldn't have done it different..... Even if they were the same price

First off, What do you mean "moving parts"? Was that a metaphor to say there are just too many parts, or did you mean the soap lid, soap plate, and scuttle? Sorry if I'm taking this too literally (it's my curse) but nothing on it moves...

I heat mine by using my tap water -it gets REALLY hot-, first of all, I have yet to shave with it because I expected it to get in later than it did, so I shaved the morning of it's arrival >.< Slow growing beard sucks, also I am spending the weekend consoling my girlfriend while she rails against mother nature () So a 45 minute "me-Time" for shaving... probably a bad idea... As for the dipping basin, I don't really go with the whole "hot water ruins a brush" thing... Maybe if the water is hot enough, but since I don't go microwave-hot, I don't see a problem, I've always put my brushes in my mug and left it under the hottest running water my tap can provide (which is too hot to leave my hand under) and never had a problem... When I gave the scuttle a quick non-shave test, I filled it up with really hot water in the inside, and the basin, let it sit for a while with the brush soaking, then poured ALL the water out, and refilled the inside only with hotTER water, and went with it. The water's never damaged my brushes, and it kept the lather warm for as long as I was testing it (30-35 minutes)

I understand there's still a difference of each :P Hell, I still want to get a G5, they look beautiful (and the cork is brilliant) I was just sold on the soap cap and the dipping basin. Together they were perfect for my soap habit, I prefer soaps. On that note, when you fill it up to let the scuttle warm, you can put the soap lid in the lathering basin, it helps to head the whole puck-in-cap and soften the surface for brush loading, it works great for me.

YMMV, but I'm very happy, and can't wait to shave with it... Sadly, that will be at the end of the weekend, most likely (I'm going to find this Mother Nature character.. And strangle her.)

I'm going to use it for sure... It just arrived at the wrong time... Well.. Somethign else arriving overlapped with it, and stole my testing time.. The G5 was actually the one I was initially leaning to.. But the soap lid, getting rid of a soap mug cluttering my minute shave den (the surface of a dresser in a dorm room, that is shared with my toiletries) and the dipping basin won me over... Soon I'll get a G5 though... I can't hold out too well >.>

Yeah, I was joking..... I know what parts it has..... I was just using that as a metaphor for the multiple pieces.

My hot water isn't that hot. I have a 15 year old daughter and if I turn it up higher, it would just last longer and she would take a longer shower! I do have to pay the bill.......

Okay, I always take things too literally... sorry 'bout that.. my rule of thumb is that since theres a very small amount of heat dissipation for the scuttle (mostly, the dipping pool cools but the scuttle stays warm) i just make the scuttle water really toasty, since the brush area doesnt stay scorching but the internal water does...

Thanks for feedback gents! I was thinking of old school scuttle but they're hard to come by or I'm not searching hard enough.

For those who got theirs from Georgetown, how long did it take with UPS to get to you? Understand it varies from one locale to another. Just curious.

No kiddin, the reply from Lori was to let her know how many in group and turnaround time would be 2 weeks. No mention of discount :P

BTW, I have shaved with it two times now.... The first time I didn't get the water hot enough and the later wasn't warm. Today, I got the water close to boiling and had nice warm later for close to an hour later!

Very pleased with it and the vertical and horizontal lines in the scuttle really seem to help with lather production. The rim/lip really is needed to keep it from spilling out and going everywhere. Very happy with my purchase...... Highly recommend this product and company.

Besides the exquisite glaze, the new design is really impressive from the vertical/horizontal ridges down to lip over hang and not to mention the spout was really a nice touch to boot! This was always a concern of mine with regards to lather oozing out of the reservoir and how one overcame it. But this issue was rectified with the new scuttle.

I tried searching for related threads but didn't yield much. It's really tough having to choose. Especially if it's gonna be between Julie's Dirty Birdie and GTP G5. It's only couple buck difference. Only thing I see is that there's only two type of glaze Julie does and not sure if she can make custom glaze according to client's wishes. Anyway, the fact that you mention the heat lasted for even hour later is definite selling point!

They have an "old school" (if this scuttle belongs to the school you are referring to..) Scuttle here. Just FWIW.

Mine came in three days from Maine to Tennessee..... Not bad IMHO.
