Thread: New Ever-Ready additions to my SBAD

I just finished restoring and cleaning this Ever-Ready 925 Butterscotch, replacing the old knot with a 20mm UK Cream Boar from TGN. Loft height is around 50mm. In a couple of days I'll be able to compare my last restore, the green 925, pure badger to this boar bristle. So far I can tell the boar has a backbone like a brontosaurus:



Then the family. Unfortunately I cannot find a 925 with red base, so I got a 150. It is basically the same shape just smaller in size. As soon as I decide on a knot (Super or Silvertip extra packed) I will have completed my set!

Looks great - I really like the colors, especially the green. My original brush is actually an old ever-ready from my grandfather, maybe one day I'll throw on a new knot

I would say you be extra ever-ready for a shave.

Alright today was the first go for the new boar brush and I have to say, it didn't perform as well as the pure badger right out of the gate...

At first the bowl lather seemed right as far as consistency goes, but when applying it to my face, it didn't give as thick a coating as usual. This also dried out towards the end of my passes. Adding more water didn't yield better looking results in the bowl and I went a few drops at a time until I came to the unwanted tiny air bubbles level...

I also had to go back to the soap (Tabac) to reload the bowl for the third pass.

So someone who is a boar connoisseur please tell me a trick about these bristles and what it takes to make them act right. Do they hold more/less water than badgers? Do I need to spend a lot more time loading the soap? Any help is appreciated.

I'm no boar man but I thought guys said you have to soak one in hot water for a time before using it.

oh it soaked in warm water while I was in the shower before the shave.
