Thread: Porcelain Brush ID Help

I was on vacation this weekend and the town I was in had a few antique stores. I wondered into a few and I found this Brush "cost me $8, It does not have any print on it just the shield emblem. The brush handle seems to be porcelain and is heavy. I can not tell what kind of hair it has but it is pretty soft "softer then my pure badger".

So I am asking if any of you know anything about this just by they logo of if you have seen something like this before.

It could be horse hair. I have some well broken in horse that is great. Could you get a better picture of the shield?

It certainly isn't badger. It could be horse or boar or even synthetic.

Here are some better Pictures of the Logo on the front. I hope it helps in finding some info because I have had no luck.

I do believe its horse hair but can I cut one hair off and burn it to see if it smells like burning hair or nylon? or is there a better way.

Just guessing, it looks like one of these brushes made for a set of some kind probably an inexpensive one or one sold by a specialty store like Caswell-Massey or even Avon. Usually if it's boar it will be pretty stiff. Horse is usually softer. If it's an older synthetic it will not hold water worth a damn.
