can the soap be used?

I mean this old mug was never used, late 50's early 60's Old Spice Mug, some ship, who cares, but came with the lid intact and the original soap cake.

The soap looks like it is quite dry, but for its age, not to bad at all. Just a few cracks. Would a little water and glycerin bring it back to life? Should I worry about it? Should I throw out the soap?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

There are guys who are really into vintage soaps, and I have heard good things about vintage Old Spice. That said, I have never actually used it myself.

I don't know about this. I have personal issues about applying some After shave to my face that has been sitting in a bottle for years and especially if it has no seal on it. I feel the same way about soaps but that's just me. First of all there's the issue of unless it's totally sealed you don't know where it's been and what's been done to it and then second I find over time there is deterioration in some of these things.

Of course if you don't worry about such thing then just lather up.

I use vintage old spice soap,it's great stuff.If you are afraid of it you can send it to me.

I would suggest taking it out and using like a hand soap to remove any surface dust/dirt ect. Then just pop it back in and use it. It will reabsorb what it needs within a couple of days. If you add too much it might get a bit slimey. Soap rarely goes bad, but if it has orange spots in it don't use it. The oils in it have gone rancid

If the soap is clean under the lid, then have at it, or wash it off first. That soap is one of my favorites and I will be very sad indeed when I get the last shave out of my last vintage puck.

I haven't found that they do not deteriorate at all but probably do loose scent. The soap itself is first class goodness though. I am sorry that I didn't use it when it was available.

I have three mugs with soap.They were all still sealed in the mug.I'm using one the other two are waiting thier turn.it lather's and smells great.I had one puck that was not in a mug.It was brown and nasty looking.I washed it off,lathered it up,and used it all up.Not much scent but great lather.

i dont think anybody has ever died from using soap...

I have been looking for some vintage old spice soap (and aftershave). One of my favorite scents. Enjoy it the soap should be just fine.
