Thread: Natures loss my gain

I noticed that there was a cedar tree cut down the other day when I was going to work so at lunch I went back to where it was and asked the guys who cut it down if I could take a couple limbs. They were glad to not have to load up the ones at least that I took.
I cut them down and skinned them and have turned out 2 cedar brush handles, Here's a couple pictures of one of them.

Very nice. cedar is one of my favorite woods love the way it looks and smells.

They are really nice; wish I had paid attention in my high school woodworking class.
I made a fishing rod holder once; took it home and nobody knew what the hell it was.

LOL!!!!!!!!

You know, I thought about doing the same thing when I saw them cutting down those trees.. too bad I was already late for an appointment.... allwell.. Awesome work as usual!!

It amazes me how much cedar is being removed near my home right now. Unfortunately I learned to dislike the smell of cedar very quickly when I did a series of 40 custom closets in a row as a cabinet maker.

You could always wear a nose clip.

We never got woodworking in school would give anything to know how to work a lathe..

In my experience teaching students, school isn't the place to learn turning. The teachers generally knew little to nothing about it so they taught students the method of scrape out a rough shape then comes the 36 grit gouge. Its much harder to unlearn something.
Search for a local group of wood turners, they usually have at least one guy willing to teach for free. There are few people as kind as wood turners.
