Default New Brush / Hairs coming out!

So I've been using a relatively inexpensive brush - something I picked up online at either amazon or ebay, I can't remember.

I believe it's boar hair, but honestly I'm not even sure. Seems to work well at getting a nice good lather; I never have any problems with that.

The rub is that the bristles keep coming out when I lather up. I'm presuming this is a sign of a cheap brush.

So, what are the recommendations for a good, inexpensive brush who's bristles won't come out. I don't need anything fancy; as I mentioned this one works great for me except for the bristles coming out part. boar/horse/etc hair would probably be fine, as I'm sure the one I have isn't badger.

The hope is that the bristles will eventually stop falling out. There is often a bit of a break-in period where brushes will shed some hair. After a few shaves, this should taper off, and then you may lose one here and there.....not very often though.

Low end Vulfix brushes can be very affordable. Omega Boar brushes are about 15 bux at Shopper's Drug Mart (in Canada).

whippeddog.com has some inexpensive brushes and knots, and if IIRC, HNSB's website also has some very affordable brushes.

This should be enough to start your search.

    Good luck.

I've used the same brush for over 20 years, and it has lost easily half its bristles. It still works fine for me and may even be easier to get into tighter spots like under the nose.

I've not tried the vulfix brushes but have heard great things about them. The best boar brush I have is an Omega 10048 that I purchased locally for 16 bucks. It's the softest boar I've used but it's got plenty of backbone.
The other brush is a Frank shaving Best Badger that I picked up for 27 bucks online from star shaving.
Big knot, plenty soft (bit of prickle but it worked out after a couple weeks), holds a lot of water.
    Both make great lather.Name: uploadfromtaptalk1321743636827.jpg

Realize if you go too cheap well, you know what happens. How much do you want to spend? For 30 bucks or so you can get a great basic badger and for $20 a top line boar.

Thanks for all the responses guys!

I'm not so cheap that I couldn't spend $30 for a decent brush... I did drop more than a hundred bucks to get started w this whole thing after all :-)

It's been about two months of shaving maybe 2-3x per week and the bristles are still coming out every time I lather up. I suppose it's only a minor annoyance, but I'd prefer it if they stayed put. :-)

I'll check out some of the ones y'all mentioned.

    Thanks!
