    Default Esquire Daubers

I was in an antique store today and saw a rather blaah toilet set (no razor), but it did have two interesting brushes. The whole thing was $14.00. I was tempted, but only because I'd never seen or heard of these before. Two filthy wooden brushes with extremely short bristles, cut square across, more like a shoe polish applicator than a shaving brush. They WERE a bit softer than a shoe brush but still seemed a bit stiff for shaving brushes.

Sorry about the lousy pictures. I'm pretty sure that first word is "Esquire", even though there really doesn't seem to be room to complete it.

There were no Straight razors but maybe 4 or 5 DE's including a redtip and at least one other adjustable, all in pretty rough shape. I wasn't interested so I didn't ask to get them out of the display case, not even to see what price they were.

In another shop I found a pair of men's hairbrushes of "Real Ebony" and what appeared to be a natural bristle. I think they were $35.00 for the pair in a leather case.

In yet another store I saw a collection of pipes in a stand, $150.00, I think, for the lot. I think there were about 8 or 9 of them, all appearing to be 'commercial/over-the-counter' pipes from maybe the 50's or 60's. One was marked "Old Pal" and there were at least a couple of genuine briar. They were all well used, but not for a long while, as one had cobwebs in the bottom of the bowl. The stems didn't look as if they had been badly chewed.

If anyone is interested, let me know and maybe next time I'm out that way I can remember to take a camera and get some pictures.

Esquire was a very popular shoe polish company years ago (I don't know if they still exist) so those are for shoe polish.

They did seem out of place with the rest of the set.
