Default What brush would you get if you had 50 bucks to spend?

I've given myself 50 bucks to move up to the next level. I've been using the Walgreen's 8 dollar special for about a year and it has served me well, but by now looks like a sad unopened tulip. I am slowly upgrading all my equipment this year starting with a new razor and strop, and now brush. So what would you get for 50 dollars?

Make your own! See my thread. I paid about $30 I think for the silvertip knot, and the socket and spinner maybe cost me $20 total, but not exactly sure cause I pulled em out of my tool box. Took absolutely no skill to assemble. I'm sure you could make a handle out of just about anything you can drill a hole in though

But if making one isn't your own, I have no experience with them but I was looking at some of the plastic handled Vulfix brushes. The knot was more important to me than the handle.

Golde nib silver tip and a chess piece from the thrift store... Maybe a rook this time.. I have two kings now. Or go antler huning in the woods. Makes a nice handle too.

Good advice on makin your own, and it's easier than you may imagine. As for your current brush, flick it with a little violence after use, it should bloom for you. Good luck!

Simpson Special S1B, $45 shipped from TSS. I bought one for my pops for his birthday last year and he absolutely loves it.

This one cost me around $50 to make from The Golden nib. They have pre made handles you can order, and with the proper size badger knot, you come out with a very high end brush. All it takes is some marine epoxy glue and that's it.

WhippedDog.com has great deals on silvertip badgers. $28 is what I paid for mine and I love it. That leaves you extra cash to spend on other shaving goodies as well!

Is alot more to building a proper brush, with the correct loft than just sticking a knot in a hole with epoxy.
