    Default Clown nose brush

Here's a brush I turned back in June, and just got done now. For some reason I really struggled with the CA finish on this one. I'd say it took me 5 tries to nail it down. But, I finally got it right. Some of the guys at our last meet saw it, while it still had cloudy sections on it.

It's red Mallee burl turned to sorta mimic my Vintage Plisson. Here's a pic of that brush.

The finished brush has a 22mm finest, with a loft of 52mm. The Mallee burl has a very deep red color, and also shows some of the orange sap wood.

    I like it!

Quick CA question: how humid was it when you were putting the finish on? I've had that happen (the cloudiness thing) a couple of times and my working theory is that is was particularly humid on those days.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

That very well could be Kris. My lathe is in my basement, and I've had this problem with others. Maybe I'll bring my dehumidifier in there next time. Still perfecting the CA finish, it's a new technique for me. But I love the way it turns out. The key to making it like glass is............

Headlight polish for your car. But maybe most guys doing CA new that already.

I love that choice of wood, it has a nice patterned grain to it that adds character. I like that shape as well because it is not what is viewed as "normal", it is different in a good way.

Mallee is a beautiful burl. When finished, it has a very deep, deep color and grain pattern.

Where do you guys come up with these exotic woods? I know you don't get it from Home Depot or Lowe's.

    Rona.........

    Just kidding.

Got this from EBay, but most of my wood comes from a local exotic wood supplier.

So you have a wood pusher eh?

I have seen some of the more exotic woods in eBay but have never made the leap to buy any and all attempts to find a local supplier have been unsuccessful.

Those are some gorgeous brushes... way to go!

I've never heard of Mallee burl, but it's got my attention! Is the wood suitable for scales?
