    Default Local burl brush

Some of you saw in the "What are you working on" thread, a piece of the locally sourced Box Elder burl that I had stabilized with black dye. This was some of the first burl that I found on a farm in the town I work in, and was the first little bit that was dry enough to use. Well, I found that the aniline dye I used to tint the stabilizing fluid did not work.... At all. But that's ok, cause it still did it's job stabilizing the blank. I more than doubled the weight of the wood. I'm also trying something else with this handle. I decided to try using the most basic of finishes, boiled linseed oil. What I'm doing with it is applying a coat every 2 days until I get to at least 10 coats, or I see that it's had enough. So far I'm at 3 coats and things are looking really good.

So here it is so far. Really happy with the burl grain and also the spalted lines.
