Default WTB: Fantastic shaver, shave-ready from honemeister

Okay, so I've purchased several razors, some advertised as "shave ready". I prep well, and I carefully use my (gorgeous) Tony Miller strop before every shave.

I get a good shave, but I wouldn't call it smooth or easy. I'd love to try a razor that's TRULY shave ready, so I know which technique needs the most work: shaving or honing. (Giving up is NOT an option.)

WANTED: Fantastic shaver, made shave-ready by an established honemeister. I don't need anything fancy; shave quality is #1. But I don't mind paying for a really nice razor.

Why not just send your favorite razor to a Honemeister and let them get it "Shave Ready" for you? It'll probably be cheaper than buying another 'shave ready' razor, that doesn't please you and you'll get a better job, too.

Good advice, but I don't have any obvious candidates for honing. I have some older razors (an old Boker King Cutter, and English wedge, etc., ) but I don't know if they're easily salvageable.

My favorite razor to shave with right now is my Wapi. (Thanks Woj!) The cost of return shipping -- from Canada -- plus honing would be more than the razor is worth. I'd rather just buy ONE really nice razor from a reliable source, and settle the matter.

This sounds reasonable. You can PM some of the honemeisters directly in case they don't see this thread. Or if you're feeling flush you can just get that one that Josh has listed
And of course you can always pick something up from the vendors, now that SRD has vintage razors you're not restricted to new razors only.
    Anyways, good luck.

Unless it's horribly mistreated, that Boker is a fine candidate for sending out to be honed. My first honest shave came from a King Cutter that I just couldn't seem to get sharp enough on my own. One of the members took pity on me and offered to have a look... it came back with a note that it only took a few laps on a barbers hone to bring it home and the following shave I had with that razor showed me what was possible. I have since progressed beyond that level of sharpness and I think we all keep chasing after the ever perfect edge so it's a never ending moving target it seems. That said, I say send the Boker out to someone for a honing and wait with the additional razors. It's funny how once you know how sharp a razor can be, it's easier to hone to that level. Until you know it's possible, it's hard to convince yourself that you could do better.....

    Regards

But being shave-ready and honed by a honemeister does increase its value and useability

Of course you can mail some pics of a razor to a honemeister and ask if it is salvageable.
