FS: Two vintage Thuringian hones
Both hones are PENDING
I have been saying I should be trimming, have I not....
Well, I bought these two hones sometime in Sept-Oct last year when I was starting and it looks like I have too many duplicates. They are vintage finishing hones mined in Thuringia Germany before the WW2 (my understanding is that the mines were bombed and have not been operational since). To me they are indistinguishable (apart from the labels) from the Escher I have, and they produce excellent edge. Under microscope the texture is finer than that of the NOS thuringians that are currently being offered by Muller. I am offering them for what I paid for them. Both are lapped on my DMT.
- 5 3/16" x 1 3/16" x 5/8" but has a 1/4" long 1/32"-deep chip on one end, so if you want to lap 1/32" off it it'll be perfect end to end. I don't go all the way to the ends when I hone and cosmetics don't bother me. Price $85 shipped in continental US, elsewhere - pay the difference.
- 4 15/16" x 1 1/32" x 1/2". Price $75 shipped in continental US, elsewhere - pay the difference.
They come with their wooden boxes, with labels, the larger one has a space in the box for a slurry stone, but I have no stlurry stones with them. The large box has a broken hinge. Both are lapped on my DMT and are nice and flat.
