Default BIRKSHIRE 5/8th spike point, Reading Barber Supply Co. Reading P.A. (Germany)

    SOLD

I really hate to sell any of my razors but the wife is giving me the eye again so hopefully she will find a good home (the razor… I will keep the wife for now).

This one was manufactured in Germany for Reading Barber Supply Co Reading P.A. Is a 5/8th Full Hollow Ground blade with matte finish face, Black Oxide tang and tail and gentle smiling edge. The tang reads “BERKSHIRE”. Blade shows little hone wear (less than 1mm). Blade is rust and pit free and with a thin even bevel makes it easy to maintain a keen edge even for someone new to straight razor maintenance. This is a singing razor and will sing when stropped, plucked and sometimes when cutting whiskers.

The Faux Ivory celluloid scales with black wedge spacer and silver steel bolsters are un-warped. The blade sits firmly in the scales with even friction all the way around and perfectly centers when closed.

This razor was restored to its former glory some time ago; originally had black oxide covering the tang, tail, toe and spine; however during restoration some of the oxide was rubbed off. Now oxide remains only on the underside of the tang and the “finger” rest of the tail the rest is polished.

The scales are not perfect, there is a crack near the pivot pin but does not go through to the pin hole, the crack is stabilized and now maybe even stronger then original, I have been using it for several shaves now with no problems… fantastic shave.
Also there is a chip in the scale near the wedge area as can be seen in 2 if the photos (a little bigger than a “flee bite”), this may have happened while closing the razor; the toe of the blade has sharp corners and simply chipped the scale, of course these imperfections do not in any way affect the shave or the safety.

The shave from this one is just great… smooth irritation free shave even for my rough beard… you wont regret the shave… however see my guarantee/warranty below.
Though she is a full hollow ground razor she has a stiff grind for a smooth shave and will tackle rough whiskers.
She comes “shave ready”, disinfected and will have a thin layer of biodegradable oil. No need to strop for the first shave, simply wash off the oil, lather up and enjoy the shave.

    Warranty:
Along with this razor you get three (3) free “whenever” honing… that means: - I will re-hone her up to three consecutive times at no charge whenever she starts pulling and stropping does not help (you only pay shipping both ways).
Now I realize my beard and yours may be different and you may not get a comfortable shave from this razor so; If for any reason you don’t enjoy the shave, or she’s just not working out for you, simply return her for a no questions asked full refund (including shipping)… seriously, I would gladly take her back.

I am asking $40 through any form of PaPal and will ship free of charge anywhere... however, shipping off planet will be extra.

Gentlemen she now has a new home... thanks for all your kind comments... and thanks SRP

I suppose this would be a good place to start with a first razor? If so, I'll take it.

Are you sure you want to start shaving with a spike point? I only ask because most will want start with a round point.
That said if you want it... its yours but please send me a PM.

The spike is very sharp, and for someone just starting out with straight razors could get nicked around the ears and nose. Without experience it is difficult to keep track of the point is while shaving.

Straights come in many "point styles" but a round point is more forgiving.
Have a look at these razors in the link below for examples of round points.

These photos are in the razor club section of the forum.

Hope this helps with your decision my friend.

Oww..this is killing me. I need a brush and soap (looking at $50 bucks or so for that), so the $40 is spoken for this month. That said, if it last too long, which I dont see happening, I might just have to exercise the paypal account

    Great looking razor.

    Great looking razor.

PMed on a brush and soaps. I hope I can help you get some gear and keep the costs down.

Also, very nice price on the razor. Looks like a great starter. Don't fear the spikes!

you really know best how careful you are, but I started with a rather pointy blade and that part wasn't an issue for me. as a matter of fact come to think about it my first three razors were all sharp spikes. but you are the only one who knows how good you are about paying attention....
