Default newbie looking for starting kit

hi, im new to the straight razor business and am looking for a reasonably priced set. Right now I do have a bid down on ebay for a razor but who knows if im going to win it, it seems like i'll be outbid within the next few days since its a nice looking razor. Anyway, I'm really looking for a razor, strop and maybe brush to start. So if anyone is looking to get rid of an old razor and help a newbie let me know. thanks

You have a PM about a razor. I should have mentioned, I also have a bunch of soaps (from Pirates Cove and Honeybee Spa) if you're looking for something.

oh yea, i guess beggars cant be choosers but i was thinking a 5/8 half or full hollow with a round tip would be best but thats just what i think may work best for me.

Not a problem; just throwing it out. I'm sure you'll get other offers, so no need to jump at something you're not too interested in.

Hmm winning a razor on ebay is a dicey thing when you're a newbie and don't know what to look for. you may get lucky, but you may end up wasting your money as well and then you'll still have to send it out for honing... Better get it from a member here. There have been various round points recently, so it shouldn't be too hard to pick one up. If the money is tight go with a cheap boar brush from your local store ($5 or so). And of course there is the option to pick up one of the cheap (but quite decent) razors from one of the vendors (kenrup, mike_ratliff...).
In any case don't worry - either way you'll be set out with good stuff to get you started.
