Thread: FS: Lecoultre Frameback & Mappin and Webb "Nulli Secundus"

Hi there everyone,

I've got two razors I'd like to sell - and a few more still to come once I photograph them..
I just don't have the time to get to these to "play with them," so I'm selling them off...

• 1st there is an ivory scaled Jaques LeCoultre frameback made in Sentier Switzerland - from my research it looks to be mid to late 1800 (could be older) - the spacer looks like ivory too, The blade is removable via a little brass screw at the point, and the edge has a really nice bevel (quite keen edge), looks like its seen little use in its day. There is the general patina all over but no serious or obvious pitting anywhere, a little dirty still at the pins but otherwise in great shape, given the age. The blade is juuust short of an inch from edge to spine. Comes with half a Wostenholm coffin, that seriously looks really old.

Asking $120 - which includes the postage from South Africa.

• And then 2nd I have a really nice Mappin & Webb "Nulli Secundus" you know the one.. It's a 5/8 full hollow, with ivory scales and a lead spacer. There's the finest of hairline cracks on one of the scales near the pin - but thats ivory for you.. There's also some light tarnish on the tang that I haven't got to cleaning yet, but is only surface. It has a very keen edge, so I'd say it's "almost there" in terms of shave-readiness and it's a great sheffield blade with very little to no hone-wear on the spine.

Please note: in SA we can't receive money via Paypal - But we have a very secure equivalent called Setcom. I've sold to 6 SRP members without any problems, and they've all said the transaction was easy and pain-free. So please don't stress over that..

Just dropped the prices on these - $120 and $100 respectively, hope someone can see what great razors these are - as always let me know your thoughts, I'm a pretty amiable guy...

If you are asking for an opinion, then I would say yes I think the prices are too high for the razors in the condition that they are inalthough some people might think otherwise. I have seen several of the LeCouture framebacks in close to mint condition sell for 40-50 USD with an extra blade; not trying to say that's all that they are worth because they are surely worth a at least a little more but it is relevant information. The scales on your could be ivory but the blade seems to have lots of corrosion. Thank you for sharing the old razor article, it was a fun read.

Thanks for the input. The LeCoultre I've got here, from what I can gather, is a lot older than the 'newer', 'cleaner' simple black-scaled ones I've also seen online for around that price. The ivory scales and spacer, and the squared off style of the scales imply to me at least, that this razor was a bit more than the 'standard stock' LeCoultre's out there - also the edge on this one is quite pristine compared to the 'newer' looking ones that I've seen. As for the corrosion, it really is all surface, there are no glaring holes in the metal anywhere, and I think a bit of water-paper and a dremel will restore it quite perfectly. That said if there are more people thinking this one ain't worth the asking price, please let me know and I will definately drop the price. I just don't want to give it away, considering what I paid for it and also considering what I have to pay to ship it - but I do really want to move it along, so guys please advise here..

The same holds for the M&W, though the asking price for that one is really fair I do believe - buuuut, guys just let me know. I'm sure some of you are into collecting these "Nulli Secudus" razors - they really are "Second to none"

well... Dropping the prices then to get these sold.

$90 for the Mappin & Webb - or make a reasonable offer


Guys I really think these are great prices, esp. since they coming all the way from SA.
If someone could take 'em off my hands I'd really appreciate it.
