Thread: WTB Starter Razor

Hello everyone! This is my first post on SRP. I am very interested in straight razor shaving. There is a wealth of information on this site, but it has been very difficult for me to decide what to buy. I was wondering if anyone has a good starter razor for sale to get me off to a good start. Thanks.

everyone has something they like, however it is a difficult question to ask anyone else due too personal preference.

as a starter round point definately, less chance of cutting. size isnt always an issue but 5/8th or so is a good size possibly 6/8th.

Heres the crunch....im selling some of mine but dont be tempted to buy on ebay just yet, get a shave ready from the forum here from some of the members. This was not an attempt to sell mine as i think there are some excellent beginner sets out there.Double arrow, wapi etc plus you got a knowledge base to back all of this up.

Check out Kenrup's starter kits. He makes a starter kit with Double Arrow or Wapi, strop (one side pasted I believe), and other accessories that you can add on all for a very reasonable price.

the ones simon had listed recently should be an easy pick if there are still left.

if you must have a new one - the cheapest are the double arrow and wapienicas - kenrup and mike_ratliff seem to be offering these honed.

Thanks for the replies. Any suggestions on the razor? DA vs Wapi? I shave every other day and my growth is not very thick.

I've never used a DA, but I do have a Wapi and I love it. Hence, I'm going to vote Wapi.

I've used neither, so I'd say DA - the ergonomics is better. It doesn't matter to many people, but what if it matters to you? And it's absolutely the cheapest new razor that would take an edge.
I still think that a vintage razor is a much better value, but I certainly understand that to some people this is just unacceptable.

I have some for sale at reasonable prices for a newcomer in my thread called "Newbie Specials". I have some starter strop stuff too.

Also, I have some smaller round point De-Fi's that are economical too. They have their own thread (Solingen De-Fi 4/8)

The DA is a hollow grind and the Wapi is 1/2 hollow which means the edge is stiffer than a full hollow. You might want to try out both types.

Ken puts together a great package, as I'm sure others do.
I've been pleased with mine.
I've had to take a break from shaving for a little over a month, but now I think I can start up again.
Oh...you're going to end up buying ALOT more razors!!!!
