Thread: George Wolstenholm & Son pipe razor for sale

This is a very nice 4/8 quarter hollow (I believe) barber notch razor and box that has become an 'extra' in my rotation. George Wostenholm & Son Sheffield England. I hope somebody can get some good use out of it.

Just polished, honed and re-pinned. Hard to tell from the pix but the scales are a blend of green and yellow. The scales are in great condition and the blade is tight and centered. Minimal hone wear and shave-ready. Used it this morning as a matter of fact. Shaves well, I just prefer round point 6/8-7/8 blades.

are the smaller razors better at the area between nose and moustach? does anybody use more than one razor when shaving? just curious as a newbie, that area is a bit tricky for me.

Normally I only use more than one razor if I'm shave testing. There is a technique called the "coup de matrie" (unless I spelled that wrong), that is helpful in getting under your nose (I also use it under my ears). There is a video somewhere on here, but to summerize, start with an angle just under 80 degrees with the face of the blade against your nose and the edge as high as possible. As you draw the blade down and rotate the blade such that you end just above the top of your upper lip at a normal shaving angle.

With this technique, I'm able to shave the area under my nose with an 8/8 Savage.

Yes, small razors are a little more convenient under the nose, especially if you don't share my characteristic of an upturned nose. I never liked my nose until I started shaving with straights.

There's no reason you couldn't shave your whole face with this one.

I don't use more than one razor (unless testing several) since it's too much hassle. However small/narrow razors are a lot of fun actually. They are certainly easier to maneuver.
My only concern about this razor is that it seem to have started as a larger one and honed down to the current state. The edge appears to be getting inside the shoulder, so I'm not sure how easy would it be to hone in the future. I'd certainly take a real 4/8 razor over a worn down 5/8 or 6/8.

Looks like several of the other Wolstenholms and a few other brands that I've seen.

Reduced to $50 shipped OBO. I just spent $58 to have it re-furbed and honed so much less and I'll just keep it for a while

May be - could you perhaps have a larger picture of just the blade? I think that would help.

Good idea. I'll try to get one up this evening. With the high polish on the blade and my limited photog skills, it may be a challenge.
