Default FS: Large Vintage Coticule/Blue combo

    SOLD thank you!

Here is another rational decision I am making even if I don't want to... I really don't need all my hones, so here is one of the large ones.

    • Size: 205mm x 48mm (~ 8.1"x1.9")
    • Vintage belgian blue/yellow glued together
    • Yellow side is almost pefectly uniform, save for a faint vein in one corner
    • Blue side has a chip on one end - just don't use the last 1/4" or so
    • Both sides are lapped and ready to go

In the old days it would appear that gluing blue to yellow was fairly common. I certainly prefer to have one combo stone instead of two separate ones. I also like the vintage stones better than the new ones. I don't know if the different way of mining lead to different selection back then, or I just haven't had enough new stones, but I find that the vintage ones have different feedback which I prefer. Both are capable though to produce excellent edges, so I don't think there is dramatic difference in functionality.

The two pieces seem to have been glued just slightly (less than 1mm) off. I didn't lap to even this out as I find that sooner or later the two pieces separate since the vintage glue is water-based. I thought that instead it would be better when the separation happens to epoxy it evenly.

Finally the asking price is $165, which is slightly less than the cheapest price of functionally similar configuration. The savings are not much, but you would have a single stone and the relatively rare 'vintage'. You cover the shipping of your choice, and insurance if desired, and if funding the transaction with a credit card the associated fees.

I don't have slurry stones (I just rub together two of the same kind of stone when I need a slurry), but OLD_SCHOOL may still have some of his combo slurry pieces which would complement this one ideally.
