Castle Forbes: Neroli
I got lucky on this purchase. The short background was that I live on a budget, got sick of it, had a few extra bucks and decided to treat myself.
Packaging: It comes very nicely packaged in a classy silver hinged lid box with a very nicely written informational sheet that tells exactly what is in the "parfum" and why it's a limited edition.
The price is hefty for a cologne. $200 for a 4.4 Fl Oz bottle, but it is a limited edition (500 bottles for the year). The more experienced members may know this, BUT I don't know if they produce 500/year or if this is a 1 year production and then they will go to some other fragrance with a different name next year. I suspect that it is a yearly production issue. In any case....
Longevity of scent: I have experimented with this alone and with an AS Balm (I use Nivea products exclusively). If I use it alone (such as on weekends when I don't shave), it has a lifetime of about 4-5 hours (at least on me. Some of you may have different experiences). If I use it in combination with "Nivea Extreme Comfort", not only does it last longer but the scent changes (I'll get into this in another paragraph or so).
Burn/bite: Not a big deal. If you use it right after shaving then it will sting a bit but it certainly won't "let you know who's boss". LOL!
Now for the essay: I really like this scent. It goes on with a citrus, slight powdery and slightly woody scent IF there is no AS balm. After about an hour it changes to a nice subtle combination of citrus and a hard to describe woodsy scent (at least for me. As most women and a few men know colognes will vary their scent dependent on your own body "chemistry").
Just to test it out (as I bought it on a whim and had no idea what it would smell like on me) I polled my female office staff and was pleasantly surprised to find that all 3 (I have a small office) women really liked it.
When I combined it with "Nivea Extreme Comfort" after shave balm (spraying the Neroli on my neck and not on my upper chest as I usually would do), not only did the scent last longer but it changed. It became more musky (subtly so) and it lasted my full 10 hour work day. When I polled my female staff again, they thought I was wearing a different cologne BUT they liked it even more.
More importantly, I like it very much either with or without the AS balm.
It is definitely expensive and unless you have money to burn I'd say it's something to buy yourself as a reward or treat, BUT, if you decide to purchase it, it is well worth the money and a wonderful scent.
Honestly, I would consider buying this 1 time per year (on a regular basis) without a problem. If I run out, I have plenty of other colognes to last me until the next purchase.
Bottom line: Expensive, but the product itself is very much an "A+". Very high quality. Wonderful scent that somehow combines with a number of aftershave balms with great results (not sure how they do that) but it was worth the cost for a once a year "just for me" purchase.
VERY NICE!!!!!
