Default WB 1 1/16 Natural horn

This one I had made some streaked horn scales for and cooked them trying to take a warp out of them. That will be my "adventures in horn thread ", which I will post when I am successful at that. I did have 2 pieces of what the seller called "natural horn" and I was surprised how it turned out.

This is a shot of the scales in rough shape stage and the other block of material that matches. Notice how grey it looks until you cut into it and start sanding?

I used the lead wedge but I had to make washers. The old ones were kind of beat up and I tried to use them but it didn't work out. The holes were so big I thought I would have to use a 3 lb sledge to peen the pins. I drill everything out to 3/32 and discovered 1 of the backing washers was missing. After several hours of messing around with them I took some ss 1/4" O.D. washers and domed them on a make shift block. It all worked out as I did get the thing pinned and it looks okay for now. I might even learn to live with it.

I wish I could have captured the true colors in these scales. They are some what translucent. From the near side you might be able to see some of it. They are black at the wedge with some silvery streaks that fade into a brown. If you see any of that it's not bad photographer :<0). I hope I don't get busted cause it says " For Barbers Use Only" but I will be honing this 1 soon and you KNOW what comes after that.

Great looking blade, the scales and peening looks a perfect match.

nice job. I have a set on the bench right now. The thing with horn os the depth and colour range there is, which is unfortunately hard to photograph. That is an amazing transformation.
