    Default Frederick Fenny pre-Tally-Ho

This poor blade seems to have had at least 2 restoration attempts. The earliest took a grinder of some sort to the area in the center of both blade faces near the spine. Focusing on just that area to remove some deep pitting created some deep divots in the metal. You can see the area of the missing material because of the hone wear at the spine. A glazed finish was chosen for this 6/8 near wedge. My guess is that was the original finish but previous restoration attempts made it difficult to tell. I was also unable to tell if the makers stamp was just struck uneven or was ground away. Frederick Fenney was granted his famous Running Fox Tally-Ho trade mark in 1833. I can't remember the last time I saw one of his blades without that trade mark. The original scales were very delaminated and buffed to death. They were copied in black horn with a lead wedge and brass pins and collars.

That is another fine job, but by now I just figure that if Karl has his name on it, it has to be damned good.
