WORKSHOP:CUSTOMS:SOTD
The unknown razor #73 ~ Abalone Acrylic
This razor belongs to the grandfather of the owner sister in law. It was send to me from Norway with the hopes it could be saved.
Besides the usual pitting and stains the tang was just horribly eaten by rust. It felt like I could just snap the tang and when I removed the razor from the old scales rust just started to fall down like dust.
If anyone recognizes the symbol and #73 it would really help as to know which razor this is. The rust had eaten all the naming on the tang with the letter C. being the only thing visible with SO just underneath it.
The greaseless and flap wheels did not help at all on the tang. Diddly squat, nada, nothing...
I had to use the belt sander for this. 40 grit removed it in a pinch followed by 120, 240, 400 and 600 grit. After that I finished with the black emery, white and green. Hard to capture on photo but this razor has received a second life.
As for the scales, Abalone shell with acrylic coating was requested. Nickel silver rod and brass washers. Tapered wedge with G10 Jade Ghost.
I'm truly happy another piece of shaving history was salvaged and will continue its existence in beautiful Norway.
Enjoy.

Having Fun Shaving
Looks like a lot of work,, but worth it. The owner will have a family heirloom to be proud of for many years to come.
