Exclamation Black Lip MOP Greaves 8/8

Here is a big Greaves I did for a guy. Reground the blade (but he wanted it honed without tape). The scales are genuine black lip mother of pearl. No acrylic, no veneer, just shell. The pictures can't nearly show you the depth and shine that they have- they're gorgeous. I tried something different by hand filing the insides of the scales around the wedge- I like it.

That's very nice, & a bit of pure luxury!
I've tried something similar to your filing, but filed the wedge rather than the scales.

very nice Alex... do you think this razor will require extra caution because the scales are all shell and not laminated? I've worked with that stuff a bit and it seems pretty brittle

Well it is laminated, but all shell, not just a veneer. No piece of black lip mop would be large enough to make a scale out of a single piece. It's not brittle in my experience. It's stronger than most wood scales I've ever seen. I've dropped them too on concrete with no damage.

That is a gorgeous razor. Is the owner a Gator fan?

Oh that makes more sense to me now, I just misread ... I haven't seen a single piece that big either, but I wasn't ready to rule it out.
